Like everyone else in the design community I'd like to pay my respects to design master Massimo Vignelli. A design master.
I saw him speak in my first year uni at the Sydney Design '99 conference. I was of course young, impressionable and very excited seeing such a design master speak in my home town. My lasting impression? One of awe, to me Massimo Vignelli embodied both the craft and tradition of the industry I soon hoped to take my first steps into.
But looking back on 1999 from today the world is a very different place. Massimo's is work still beautiful years after its creation, however to me the message Massimo leaves us with is what a designer can do. Seeing the breadth of skill, vision and impact his design work is what I believe to be most powerful.
In an ever-changing digital world all designers should be masters of more than just one medium to stay relevant (and inspired.)
